Today is my 10 year anniversary.  GO GREG AND MANDACHAN!!!  At the time my mother wanted me to die a slow death for getting married 3 days after Christmas, but now she can laugh about it..  eheheh...  No one to keep the chibli, plus Greg has to work 9 days straight for being off for Christmas so celebrating will have to wait, but 10 YEARS!  Sounds like a long time, but it really has flown by.

Oh! And I never answered you back about Kenpachi did I?

Kenpachi hardly ever calls anyone by their actual name or uses honorifics. I think he even called Gin by a nickname...I can't remember properly...*will have to look back at manga..* He hardly ever even REMEMBERS names.. XDD!! But for fellow captains he would probably just use the name, like 'Unohana'.

...actually, no, you have that about half right. Kenpachi tends to utterly ignore honorifics most the time, but he DOES use names. "Kurotsuchi", "Ichimaru", etc. Most of the time he'll just address someone as "you", but when he needs to specify a name, he seems to just use surnames with no honorifics for most the captains. He calls Ichigo just "Ichigo", refers to Yamamoto as "the old man" (haven't seen him ever directly address him), and I don't recall offhand what he calls people in his division, but given the pattern thus far probably calls Ikkaku and Yumichika by given name.

There's a certain degree of fanon that Kenpachi calls Unohana "woman", but I'm not certain where this originated from, and I'm only up to volume 13 in rereading the entire manga so I'm not certain on quotes and scenes that take place after that. It's noteworthy though that Yachiru refers to Unohana as "Unohana-san", so if she remembers the name *and* uses an honorific...

But for the most part, Kenpachi just calls people "hey, you!" or is pretty informal with names, but he DOES know the names at least of people who're significant and such. It's Yachiru that can't remember peoples' names, Kenpachi there's no indication in canon that he has any significant difficulty with it, just that he doesn't bother when something like "temee" or "aitsu" will suffice.

So Ken-chan is 'rude' like Renji and Ichigo, when it comes to honorfics to people's names.
But what about his men beyond Renji. I figure they would show honor to the people they are speaking to or about to fight or maybe not.

I'm sure AC will correct me if I'm wrong *won't you dear..8D*, but I think Ikkaku is pretty much the same, but Yumichika has been known to use honorifics sometimes when he is in a good mood or being...er 'cute'. If you get him pissed, I think honorifics are out the window with him though...

About the rest, I couldn't say, we haven't been that intimate with that many, except Maki-maki. And I think that the lower you go in the ranks, the more respectful they would tend to be towards the higher ups..

Pretty much. Except take into account that with these type of people, lack of honorifics isn't necessarily them being rude. It's also them just being familiar. sometimes. The real thing that tells whether they're being rude or not is the context and tone of voice.

But if you piss them off, they won't bother with your name at all, and instead will switch into just insults and rude names and such.

Well, yeah, "rude" is a way to put it. More simply that Kenpachi has an utter disregard for social conventions like honorifics.

And I just looked up a scene and it confirmed what I thought, Kenpachi calls Ikkaku just "Ikkaku". Of course, he met Ikkaku and Yumichika back in Rukongai, so he's on pretty familiar terms with them. They usually refer to him just as "captain", though, showing some respect, but Kenpachi's calling them by name like that is more a familiar thing than a rude thing.

...hm, he also calls Orihime "onna" when asking her for directions when running around the Seireitei.

Anyway, the men in Kenpachi's division would just call him "taichou" or "Zaraki-taichou". Yachiru's the only one who'd call him any different, and she calls him Ken-chan. Unless you mean what they'd call everyone else... that'd depend on the individual. Makizou (or Maki-maki) tends to use more honorifics because he's a lower-ranking 11th divisioner and has no intention of pissing off the higher officers who could probably kill him without breaking a sweat. So generally speaking, probably most the men in 11th use honorifics based on a combination of how much the respect someone, and/or how much they fear/are intimidated by them.

...ah, and in one scene he refers to Tousen as "the 9th division captain", but the context of that is him saying you to Gin "you and the 9th division captain are about the only shinigami who're scared of dying" so that really doesn't indicate either way as to whether Kenpachi knows Tousen's name.
